L'Envers & You - Fumiko

  • Tell us about you…

My name is Fumiko. I am a 44 yo Japanese mother of three, I have lived in Germany for three years after a long time in France and a little in China. My family is therefore multicultural and multilingual.

I have been a stay-at-home mum since my first child was born. It's been 9 years now that I'm a full-time mom. It's a choice that allowed me to live in harmony with children, with less stress, to be free and creative, to know how to live naturally, to learn to be a parent daily, to be more in touch with the core of society... Before that, I worked in Paris in the fashion industry for a high-end fashion jewelry in the Marais. I worked as a coordinator between the shops and the headquarters, a very exciting job but also very stressful. I still love fashion, I'm always drawn to fashion but differently, with more awareness for nature and ethics, and humanity. Now I dream of doing something interesting in the future, besides I am a little "visionary" in my house, there are many inspirations in our daily lives, especially with children around - it’s even more intense!

  • Who or what inspires you?

What inspires me... oh there is a lot! but basically ... Nature, people I encounter in my life, children, my parents, my grandparents, etc ... all those who provoke strong feelings like joy of life, sadness ...
And then this woman, the choreographer Pina Bausch! She is my muse for all things aesthetics. Her strength of desire inspires me a lot.

  • What is something you have loved for a long time?

I always liked doing things with my hands, creating, drawing, knitting, sewing, baking a cake ... it soothes my mind to keep my hands busy..

  • What is something you have recently rediscovered?

I rediscovered, the crazy charm of my country: Japan!

Obviously I have always loved it, but having lived in Europe for more than twenty years my extraordinary experiences changed both my point of view and my sensitivity to rediscover this beautiful country where I feel so relaxed from within!

  • What is your favourite object and what makes it special?

My favorite object ... perfume, essential oil ... I like the smells of sandalwood, coriander, petitgrain.
A smell can completely change an atmosphere and a mood!

  • What is something you are looking forward to?

We are nomads :) My husband and I dream of living in Japan with our children and live a new experience together! It's crazy?! I'm impatient but it will require a little more patience …

  • What does sustainability mean to you?

On the topic of ecology and ethics, I think that it is first of all everyone’s awareness that matters, an awareness for nature and our needs, ...
I try to live with few things, just the bare essentials I need and I would like to be respectful to and grateful for our mother earth Gaïa! I also want my children to be aware of the gifts of nature.
